Nonergodicity in protective factors of resilience in athletes.

Resilience is a key construct to understand when athletes continue perform optimally, or they break down. Although there consensus that resilience can be conceptualized as dynamic process, it remains an open question whether studying such process on group level adequately represents the individuals within given sample. As first step answer this question, we designed diary study test statistics for repeated assessments of protective factors and generalized from group-level trajectories individuals. By tracking over 21 days in athletes, found divergent patterns individual-level assessments. This so-called “ergodicity problem” implies individual, rather than group, should placed at analysis avoid wrong conclusions ineffective interventions their resilience.
